Hi, I’m Amy.

Long before Wildflower & Clay, there was a little business I started in 2000, when my own boys were still young.

For twelve years, I pressed tens of thousands of tiny hands and feet into clay. I made pieces for new babies, growing families, grandparents, and people wanting to hold onto something they knew wouldn’t stay the same for long.

I loved the work. I built a successful business around it, and in 2012, I sold it.

I thought that chapter of my life was finished.

Turns out, it wasn’t.

More than a decade and a whole lot of life later, I found my way back to clay.

This time around, it feels different.

I’m 56 now. My own babies are grown and having babies of their own. And I understand in a way I couldn’t at 30 just how quickly the ordinary things become the things we’d give anything to hold again. The curl of a baby’s toes. The chubby little hand. The size of their palm in yours.

There is something extraordinary about capturing those details in clay. Not because they need to be made precious, they already are, but because they will not always be this way.

My work is simple, tactile and made by hand. Each piece begins with a real impression and is individually shaped, finished, glazed and fired in my Utah studio. No two are exactly alike. They aren’t meant to be.

And somewhere along the way, this work became something else, too.

My background is in teaching, and after years of creating ceramic impressions, I began teaching other women how to create them and build businesses of their own. Today, Ceramic Handprint Training lives here at Wildflower & Clay too, a continuation of work I’ve loved for more than 26 years.

Wildflower & Clay is also growing beyond impressions, into botanical reliefs, original art and whatever else my hands decide they want to make next.

This is a return for me. To clay. To making things with my hands. To work I loved a long time ago and somehow love even more now.

And maybe, in some ways, it’s also about what comes next.
